Crossfit update (as if anyone gives a shit). Monday: New PR in the Clean & Jerk - 190lbs. This is 15lbs more than I could put up in December.
Thursday’s WOD:
Four rounds of:
Six squats @ 65%~ 1RM (did 145lbs)
Nine Handstands Pushups
Nine Toes-to-bar
I did an extra round due to a clock malfunction. First round = 1:05, last round = 1:15.
We followed this with a pushup tabata. My triceps hurt.

I was feeling a bit down after not improving my deadlift after six months of constant crossfit training and so on. I’ve been stuck at 275lb 1RM since July (for reference, i’m 160lb), and after a heavier strength-building set of programming in december/january, I expected to push up that 1RM at least 10+ lbs, only to fail in adding even 2.5 lbs. 

I was overlooking the fact that I did do these 1RMs over the last 10 days:
Snatch - 135lbs (PR, +10lbs from last attempt)
Clean & Jerk - 175lbs (PR, +10 from last attempt)
Back Squat - 225 lbs (PR, +15 from last attempt)
Press - 120 lbs (PR, +10 from last attempt)
Front Squat - 185lbs (PR, never attempted)

Moral of the story: Fuck deadlifts.

when it comes to building strength, there are no shortcuts. weightlifting requires a lot of time, effort, and patience if your goal is to get stronger, faster, and more efficient with your movements. excellence does not happen over night. it happens over a lengthy period of time and after much trial and error in doing the same thing over and over again, day in and day out. it requires hard work, repetition, determination, and the motivation to learn from your many, many, MANY mistakes.so the next time you doubt yourself or put yourself down about why you can’t lift X amount of weight, why you don’t set a personal record every week, or why you can never get the dynamics of a snatch right, just remember.. even michael jordan missed over 9,000 shots in his career. nobody is perfect, not even the pros.keep training hard, eating healthy, sleeping well, and lifting heavy. in time, you will become the beast you want to be. the first step is believing you already are.
